The Arts Society was founded in 1968 and was called the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS)) until May 2017 when it changed its name to reflect the broader range of the Arts subjects its members were interested in.

The Arts Society Dorset County (formerly DCDFAS) has been a member society of The Arts Society since 1978. Our society meets in the evening on the third Thursday of each month except July, August and December. In 2018 the November meeting will be on the first Thursday 1 November 2018 These informal occasions are always well attended and include an illustrated lecture. Our speakers, who are all experts in their specialist fields, are taken from a directory maintained by The Arts Society. Special Interest Days are also organised in which subjects are studied in greater depth.

Our Visits’ Organisers take outings to historical and cultural venues and every few years go on a 4 or 5 day visit somewhere in the UK or overseas. We have two additional ticketed social events each year, a Summer Party and a Christmas Lecture and Dinner. Our programme gives members many opportunities to catch up with old friends, make new ones and visit new places. You can find out more about all these events in the various sections of our web site.

We also work towards supporting the Young Arts, Church Trails and Heritage Volunteering.
