The Arts Society Heritage Volunteers are teams of committed non-specialist volunteers who work under the guidance of curators and other professionals to help conserve our heritage. [The image shows Heritage Volunteers learning how to conserve books at the Dorset County Museum in Dorchester.]

Heritage Volunteers undertake projects for:

• museums
• National Trust properties
• historic houses
• libraries and gardens

They give their time to care for collections, record documents and act as guides and stewards. We have volunteers at the Dorset County Museum in Dorchester. Current projects include:

• A small team of our members worked for many years on basic book conservation at the Library of the Dorset County Museum.  In December 2016 they were delighted to receive further training from the experienced bookbinder, Frank Brown.  Frank was able to share some of his knowledge and enthusiasm with the team who look forward to further training sessions and to putting their newly acquired skills into action.  This group has now finished their project.

• Members from our society and many other The Arts Society member societies in the Wessex Area have stewarded exhibitions.
